Parker
George Safford Parker was a humble American telegraphy professor who first got his income by selling fountain pens from the John Holland Gold Pen, during the final years of the nineteenth century, when many numerous problems of spills and deficiencies were presented. Motivated by an extraordinary spirit of entrepreneurship, he got hold of the necessary tools and began to repair the fountain pens of their customers and improve them with a new feeder of his invention that produced such success that, in 1888, he decided to found his own company In Janesville, Wisconsin.
Those were the origins of the Parker Pen Company, now a worldwide reference in the field of the calligraphic instruments that since then has preserved among their defining traits the constant search for innovation and the resolution of many technical challenges have been occurring with the passing of time with the essential aim of offering its clients an exclusive experience in writing.
Thus, among his greatest achievements is the development of patents of supply and charging systems such as the famous "Lucky feeder Curve" (1894), filling via button (1916), the "vacuum-filler" with rubber diaphragm (1932) or the charging system by capillarity (1956); the refinement of the inks, emphasising the quick-drying ink "Quink", launched in 1931 which is still being marketed to this day; practical elements such as the cap with pressure lock, patented by Parker in 1898, or the packing clip (1916) and, finally, in the field of design, with models that have revolutionised the world of the fountain pen like the Duofold, invented in 1921 by Lewis M. Tebbel, or the legendary Parker 51, designed in 1941 by the famous Hungarian artist of the Bauhaus László Moholy-Nagy.
In present time, the Parker fountain pen is distributed in different collections as Duofold, Sonnet, Urban, IM and Vector, or the already named Parker 51, covering a wide range that goes from high-end pens manufactured with precious materials to those of daily use, more simple but with the unsurpassed performance and the guarantee of a celebrated brand to their backs.
