The notable Swiss designer Franco Clivio is the figure behind the intelligent design of the Lamy Dialog collection of high-end fountain pens, a fascinating model that stands out, among other things, for its formal simplicity and elegance, but above all for the fact that it is the first fountain pen with a retractable nib and clip.
The fountain pens in the Dialog line contrast a clean aesthetic, reduced to the essentials and, therefore, free of superfluous accessories, with a complex internal mechanics. Regarding the first of these questions, Dialog pens are distinguished by their simple cylindrical body with rounded ends. A basic but extremely elegant geometry, stripped of all the ornamental details that usually populate writing utensils and in which, depending on the version we are looking at, its attractive silhouette is barely interrupted by a clip or, in the In the case of the Dialog CC model, it has a small stop designed to prevent the fountain pen from rolling when resting on an inclined plane. A neat and pristine aesthetic that contrasts with the complex mechanism designed to retract the nib with a simple twist. Thus, when removing the nib, the clip is slightly hidden in the body to facilitate grip. This returns to its original position when the mechanism is closed, at which point, to prevent any remaining ink on the nib from drying out when not in use, a ball valve automatically slides, sealing the opening. An ingenious and extremely effective technical solution that places us before the brilliance and perfection hidden behind the Dialog model.
