Guilloche

The fountain pens in the Graf von Faber-Castell Guilloche collection are distinguished by their ornate precious resin barrels decorated with the guilloche technique, a delicate hand-turning practice normally reserved for the jewelry industry by which different ornamental patterns are engraved on the underlying material. Each of the fountain pens in this series is individually subjected to this treatment and subsequently goes through different phases of lacquering and polishing that result in unique pieces due to their eye-catching and fascinating texture, provided by a delicious pattern of parallel wavy lines on the writing pens from the Guilloche line, an admirable herringbone design in the case of the Guilloche Ciselé range or, finally, an attractive zig-zag decoration in the specific case of the Chevron model.

This wide variety of finishes is enhanced by the wide range of colors available, with a palette that goes from the classic black and brown, ideal for writing lovers with rather sober tastes, to more lively and cheerful tones, such as indigo or coral, rare colors in the manufacture of fountain pens and that provide a more youthful and daring air.

In one case or another, we find before us pieces of outstanding quality, handcrafted with a process that includes more than one hundred steps carried out mostly by hand and endowed with excellent quality materials, such as the aforementioned precious resin, plated metal in rhodium used for its sparkling metal elements and, of course, the solid 18-carat gold from which its magnificent nibs are produced, also encased in a rhodium mask and available in a wide variety of points ranging from extra-fine to thick, going through other less common ones such as the medium and thick obliques.
