The Waterman Carène Black Sea ST is one of many models in the Carène line of fountain pens. It is a beautiful writing instrument composed of a barrel and cap covered in glossy black lacquer and various palladium-plated metal trim. The latter characteristic should have led it to be called Black Sea PT (Palladium Trim), but the name refers to the more identifiable silver color (ST, or Silver Trim). An elegant combination of materials and colors that stands out for its classicism and timelessness, it serves to enhance the beauty of the distinctive streamlined profile of this high-end series, skillfully crafted and hand-assembled by expert craftsmen at Waterman's production facility in France.

The Carène line is one of Waterman's most luxurious collections and an aesthetic marvel defined by its original design, inspired by the hydrodynamic shapes of boats and characterized by its sharp, streamlined forms. Beyond their distinctive shapes, meticulous workmanship, and the rich materials of their various models, if anything distinguishes the fountain pens in the Carène collection, it is the unusual morphology of their nibs. Unlike most pens, they are embedded in the grip section, blending their silhouette with that of the latter.

Among the various decorative elements that enliven the surface of Carène fountain pens, the most notable are their clip, equipped with the characteristic central groove of Waterman pins, the ring located where the grip section meets the barrel, its strong culotte and the fine ornamental band located at the bottom of the cap, which has the brand name engraved around its circumference.

As already mentioned, the nib of this model is recessed into the grip section and is crafted from solid 18K gold, fitted, in this case, with a rhodium mask to harmonize with the silver-colored trim of this pen. It is supplied with ink via a cartridge or converter system and features a simple engraved decoration consisting of the Waterman logo, formed by a double-v inscribed in a hexagon, and the inescapable reference to the purity of the gold used in its manufacture. This exceptional component is available in a limited range of nib thicknesses, covering fine (F) and medium (M).
