Pelikan Toledo M700

The damascene technique, called in spanish "Damasquinado", is a delicate craftsmanship used for millennia by the most refined civilizations of its time: Egypt, Greece, Rome, Japan or China, to name just a few examples. It basically consists of creating ornamental motifs by embedding, with a small hammer, gold threads or sheets into iron or steel objects. The resulting pattern is perfectly visible after being heated to a temperature of approximately 800ºC, which causes the oxidation and blackening of the steel surfaces and the highlighting of the gold ones. This type of goldsmithing, perfected over the centuries, was introduced to Spain by the Arabs, who turned the imperial city of Toledo into an important artisan center for damascene products, a condition that has endured to this day.

Pelikan, the prestigious German brand, adopted this technique in the production of the Toledo model in 1931, and the success achieved was such that its primitive design has remained practically intact until today.

The ornamental band is today arranged on a solid sterling silver sleeve that is laboriously worked in different steps that culminate with its final coating with 24-karat gold. It is a complex process, carried out entirely by hand and individually, which ends with the piece being signed and numbered by the master craftsman, which turns it into a unique work of art. On the cap, which like the body is made of high-quality black resin, the original clip is mounted, plated in gold, with the pelican motif that gives its name to the brand. Its loading system is a plunger integrated into the body and has a translucent green "window" that allows to its user to control the amount of ink available. This authentic jewel of writing is completed with an extraordinary 18-karat gold nib - available in thicknesses EF, F, M and B - and a two-tone finish that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding users.

Regarding its exclusivity, it is worth highlighting the fact that, due to its production limited to a maximum of 200 units per month, the enjoyment of this true work of art is only within the reach of a select few.
