In 1982, the Pelikan Souverän collection was launched on the market, an extraordinary repertoire of fountain pens that was born with the intention of recovering and paying tribute to one of the brand's most legendary models, the M 400, a true reference for the company since its launch in 1950 and a great success at the public level due to its technical and, especially, aesthetic peculiarities, among which, without a doubt, its characteristic striped barrel, which earned it the popular nickname of “Stresemann” due to its resemblance to the striped suits of the chancellor of the Weimar Republic Gustav Stresemann, it constituted the most original attribute of the piece.

From then until today, Pelikan has been expanding its catalog with new additions that have opened up a very interesting range of possibilities for the most demanding user, who can currently choose between very different sizes, colors and finishes without giving up the main features defining characteristics and incomparable charm of the primitive model.

With its 17.4 cm. long when posted (14.6 cm. closed), the Souverän M1000 fountain pen is undoubtedly the queen of the collection. A work specially designed for lovers of pens of notable dimensions without subtracting an iota of elegance from the whole or posing a hindrance to writing thanks to its balanced weight distribution.

As already noted, the distinctive note of this wonderful piece is its green striped shaft, a refined element that requires extremely laborious and complex production. This begins with the production, following an exclusive Pelikan formula, of a thin striped sheet made from a cotton derivative that, after countless modeling, rectification and polishing processes, ends up acquiring its unmistakable final appearance.

Its beautiful cap is made of high-quality black resin and has a brass connector piece and ornamental elements made, like those distributed on other parts of the fountain pen, in 24-karat gold-plated. In this sense, the imposing jewel that crowns it stands out, decorated with the famous logo of the German firm, the double ring that adorns its base and its beautiful clip, with the unmistakable silhouette in the shape of a pelican's beak.

Its loading system is an integrated plunger. It is made of bronze and is completed with a large 1.35 ml tank capacity, probably the largest on the market among all models equipped with this mechanism.

It has a delicious two-tone nib made of 18-carat gold with rhodium treatment and beautiful engraved decoration that is made available to the public at points EF, F, M and B with the aim of satisfying the most varied tastes.
