La "Fabrique Genovoise de Crayons" was founded in Switzerland in 1915 by Arnold Schweitzer, who renamed it nine years later with the name by which this famous brand of writing instruments and luxury accessories is known today: Caran d'Ache. This name, chosen to pay homage to the famous French cartoonist Emmanuel Poiré, comes from the word "karandash," the Russian term for "pencil". Today, it falls short of defining a company that, in addition to its well-known writing instruments, includes in its extensive product catalog a wide range of items, including office supplies, accessories, and luxury items such as bags, wallets, and cufflinks.
However, if the Caran d'Ache brand is known for anything, it's its lavish writing pens.
